Dressing for Summer

Most days begin the same way, following the routines we’ve built around our everyday lives. We see the same people, return to the same places, dress for the same occasions. Within the familiar, time slips past us unnoticed. But for a season, if we allow it, summer has a way of breaking into those patterns. Caelan captures the moment when that shift begins in the quiet ritual of dressing for summer.

There’s a pause to be found here, a moment that holds the breath of the season. “Time seems to move slowly. The heat can do that,” Caelan reflects, documenting the stillness Sunnaya experiences in the sun. It’s in these moments we begin to notice the warmth on our skin, the breeze drifting through an open window, the sunlight pooling across the floor. Only then does the day unfold.

Getting dressed is where our conversation with the day begins. With slow mornings and long afternoons, summer leaves room to wander without knowing where the day might take us. We imagine the hours to come, anticipating every possibility and preparing for the spontaneity summer invites. The morning walk that finds us wandering through a new local store. The catch-up with an old friend that ends with a table full of new faces. The dinner that becomes a late night talking over red wine.  

Looking forward to the season, Caelan says, “I plan on having a grand time. I’m not too sure what that entails yet, probably a lot of time spent outdoors in the company of my dear friends.” That sense of anticipation settles into every frame. 

These photographs are an attempt to preserve the pause before the day carries us away. We invite you to linger in this moment for a while, to let the possibility wash over you and find comfort in being fully where you are. Perhaps time doesn’t slow down in summer after all. We’re simply invited to notice it.
